FAQ
When do I use heat it®?
heat it® can be used for insect bites caused by e.g. mosquitoes, horseflies, bees and wasps. The best result is achieved when you apply the heat it® immediately after the insect bite. With immediate use, you can often prevent the symptoms completely, but even with later use, the symptoms can subside more quickly.
How hot does heat it® get?
In the "Adult" setting, the heating plate heats up to 52 °C. In the "Child" setting to maximum 49 °C. If you activate "sensitive skin", the temperature will be reduced by about 2 °C.
You can choose between 4, 7 or 9 seconds of treatment duration (short, medium, long).
What should I pay attention to?
heat it® can be used on children from the age of 3. heat it™ can be used independently from the age of 12.
heat it® must not be pressed on the skin for more than 10 seconds during the heating process. Do not treat the same area of skin more than five times per hour. There must be a break of at least 2 minutes between multiple treatments on the same area of skin. Excessive use may cause skin lesions or permanent skin discoloration (caloric hyperpigmentation).
heat it® is intended for use on external skin only. Do not use in body orifices, on mucous membranes, gums, nail beds, eyes or external ear canals.
When first used, the settings "short", "child" and "sensitive skin" must be selected. The same applies when treating parts of the body that have not yet been tested.
When treating a bee sting, the stinger must be removed first. heat it™ is not suitable for treating allergic reactions or tick bites.
Longer treatment times ("medium" and "long") and higher temperatures ("adult" and "non-sensitive skin area") may cause skin irritation in sensitive persons and on sensitive skin areas (e.g. inside the arm, Achilles heel)! Do not use these settings if you are unsure or if you are using it for the first time. The instructions for use must be observed. Improper use may result in minor burns.
How much battery does heat it® consume?
Up to 1,000 treatments at the highest level are possible with a full smartphone battery. That's enough for you, your family and friends.
How does the principle work?
The principle of hyperthermia for the treatment of itching and pain is based on a brief heating of the skin to which the nerves respond. Current research suggests that this reduces the transmission of the stimulus. As a result, the itch signal can no longer be properly transmitted and the need to scratch disappears. To achieve this itch-relieving effect on the skin nerves, a short period of heat pain is necessary.
In June 2023, we published our first study on the principle (abstract).
"New study proves effective and safe relief of itching and pain after insect bites by heat-based sting healers"
What happens when a mosquito bites?
The itching caused by a insect bite or sting is a body reaction to the insect's saliva, which is injected during the biting process. Our immune system defends itself against the foreign saliva by releasing histamine. As a result, the blood vessels dilate, the bite swells and begins to itch. By heating the affected skin area with heat it®, various endogenous reactions are induced that can relieve itching and pain.
